This Day in Sports History
1927- After hitter Ty Cobb was traded from the Detroit Tigers to the Philadelphia Athletics, Cobb recorded his 4000th all-time hit. Cobb would only play another year in Philadelphia as a player before retiring, but he would hit 4191 total balls in his career before stepping out of major league baseball as a player. Cobb would not leave the game entirely, as he would go on to become a manager in major league baseball.
